Turned on the wea-ther man just af-ter the news,
+6 -6 +5 +7 +7 +6 -6 +6 +7 -5 +5
I need-ed sweet rain to wash a-way my blues.
+5 +7 +7 -6 +7 +7 -6 +7 +7 -8
He looked at the chart, but he looked in vain:
-8 +8 -6 -6 +7 -6
Hea-vy cloud, but no rain.

 +7 -6 +7 +6 -6 +6 -6 +6 +7
Back in time with Lou-is X V I,
+6 -6 +7 +7 -6 +7 +5 -5 -6 +5 -5 +5
at the court of the peo-ple he was num-ber one.
+5 +6 -6 +7 -6 +7 -6 +7 -6 -8
He'd be the blu-est blood they'd ev-er seen,
 -5 -6 +7 +7 +7 +6 -6 +7 +6 -6
when the king said, 'Hi' to the guill-o-tine.
 -6 +8 +7 +8 +8 +8 +7 +7 +8 +8 +7 +8
The roy-al a-stro-lo-ger was run out of breath,
+8 +8 +8 +8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 +8 -8 -8
he thought that may-be the rain would post-pone his death.

-5 -8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 -8
He look in the sky, but he look in vain:
-8 +8 -6 -6 +7 -6
Hea-vy cloud, but no rain.

 +7 +7 -6 +7 +6 -6 +6 -6 -6 +6 +6 +7
Well the land was crack-ing and the ri-ver was dry;
 +6 -6 +7 -6 +7 +5 -5 -6 +7 -5 -5 +5
all the crops were dy-ing when they ought to be high.
+6 -6 +7 -6 +7 -6 +7 +7 -6 -8
So to save his farm from the bank-er's draft,
 +5 +6 -6 +7 +7 +7 +7 +6 +6 -6 +7 -6
the farm-er took out a book on some old witch-craft.
-8 +8 +7 -6 +8 +7 +8 +8 +7 +7 +8 +8 +7 +8
He made a spell and a po-tion on a mid-sum-mer's night,
+8 +8 +8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 +8 -8 -8
he killed a brind-led calf in the pale moon-light.

-5 +8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 -8 -8 +7 -8
He prayed to the sky, but he prayed in vain:
-8 +8 -6 -6 +7 -6
Hea-vy cloud, but no rain.

+7 +8 -8 -8 +7 -6 +8 -8 -8
The sun won't shine till the clouds are gone.
-6 +8 -8 -8 +7 -6 +8 -8 +8
The clouds won't go till their work is done.
+6 +8 +7 +8 +8 +7 +8 +7 +8
And eve-ry morn-ing you'll hear me pray:
+8 +8 +8 +8 +8 -10 +8 -8
If on-ly it would rain to-day.

+7 +7 -6 +7 -6 -6 +6 -6 +6 -6 +7
I asked my ba-by if there'd be some way,
+6 -6 +5 +7 +7 +6 -6 +6 +7 -5 +5
She said she save her love for a rain-y day.
+5 +7 +7 -6 +7 +7 -6 +7 +7 -6 -8
I look in the sky, but I look in vain:
-8 +8 -6 -6 +7 -6
Hea-vy cloud, but no rain.
