River (C) - Joni Mitchell

This is a 1971 version. Maybe the original. If you want to play along with Robert Downey Jr., you'll need to play on a G harmonica. There may be variations you can play in the verses. Have fun!!

It's coming on Christmas

He tried hard to help me

It's coming on Christmas

4-5-5-55

They're cutting down trees

You know, he put me at ease

They're cutting down trees

4-5-5-555

They're putting up reindeer

And he loved me so naughty

They're putting up reindeer

55566-665

And singing songs of joy and peace

Made me weak in the knees

And singing songs of joy and peace

4444444-4

Oh I wish I had a river

I wish I had a river

445-4-4-3

I could skate away on

-3-5-554

But it don't snow here

I'm so hard to handle

3-5-5-55

It stays pretty green

I'm selfish and I'm sad

4444-5-5-5-555

I'm going to make a lot of money

Now I've gone and lost the best baby

5555566-665

Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene

That I ever had

4444-34-4

I wish I had a river

Oh I wish I had a river

445-4-4-3

I could skate away on

-34-34-34-34-4

I wish I had a river so long

545654-66-67-8

I would teach my feet to fly

76555556-6

Oh I wish I had a river

345-4-44

I could skate away on

77-7-6665

I made my baby cry

I made my baby say goodbye
