Michael From Mountains

MICHAEL FROM MOUNTAINS
By Joni Mitchell

Mich-ael wakes you up with sweets
-7 7 -7 7 -6 7 -7
He takes you up streets
-6 -6 7 -7 -7*
and the rain comes down
8 -7* -7 -6 5
Side-walk mar-kets locked up tight
-7 7 -7 7 -6 7 -7
And um-brel-las bright
-7 -6 7 -7 -7*
on a grey back-ground
8 -7* -7 -6 8
There's oil on the pud-dles
-7 7 7 7 7 -7
in taf-fe-ta pat-terns
-7* 8 -7* -7 7 -6
That run down the drain
-6* -7 -6* 6 -6*
In col-ored ar-range-ments
-7 7* -6 -6 -6 5
That Mich-ael will change
5 5 5 5 5
with a stick that he found
-5 6 -6 -6 -6 -6
(CHORUS)
Mich-ael from moun-tains
7 -7 -7* 8 7
Go where you will go to
-7* -7 7 -6 -5 -7*
Know that I will know you
-7 7 -6 5 -3 -7
Some-day I will know you ve-ry well
7 -7-7* -7 -6 5 -6 7 -6

Michael brings you to a park
He sings and its dark when the clouds come by
Yellow slickers up on swings
Like puppets on strings hanging in the sky
They'll splash home to suppers in wallpapered kitchens
Their mothers will scold
But Michael will hold you
To keep away cold till the sidewalks are dry-

(CHORUS)

Michael leads you up the stairs
He needs you to care and you know you do
Cats come crying to the key
And dry you will be in a towel or two
There's rain in the window
There's sun in the painting that smiles on the wall
You want to know all
But his mountains have called so you never do-

(CHORUS)
